The Perinatal Mental Health Alliance for People of Color was founded in February 2017 by Divya B. Kumar, LCSW, ScM, CLC, Jabina Coleman, LSW, IBCLC, and Desirée Israel, LCSW-C. The PMHA-POC is bridging the gap in perinatal mental health support services for birthing persons, providers, and communities of color.
In 2022 the PMHA-POC became a program within PSI, and in the same year Andrea Clark Horton became the Director. Under her guidance the PMHA-POC will continue to fulfill the organization’s mission and vision by building on the foundation of educating, supporting, advocating, and being a resource for providers and communities of color.
Vision
To expand the access of perinatal mental health professionals of color for all families of color.
Mission
To increase the capacity of perinatal professionals to better support individuals, families, and communities of color around perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
