On Thursday, I was in Edinburgh for the UK launch of "Chokepoint Capitalism," my latest book, which I co-authored with @rgibli.
As I was getting out of a cab for a launch-day podcast appearance, I dropped my Framework from a height of five feet, right onto the pavement. 34/

But the point is, a simple machine is a good machine.
Everything in our universe is subject to entropy. Even the best made items eventually fail.
But how to reduce points of failure? Reduce complexity.
It’s time to take a closer look at our final EFF Award Winner: Kyle Wiens
@kwiens is CEO and co-founder of iFixit and a godfather of the Right to Repair movement who has empowered millions of people to fix their own goods, keep jobs, and reduce waste. https://eff.org/deeplinks/2022/11/eff-award-winner-kyle-wiens…
We're celebrating our 1000th repair ticket! 🎉 This angle grinder switch was toast but we fixed it 💪 We can only do this because we 1) use quality brands with 2) long parts availability 3) good service and 4) take the effort to #repair! We have a 84% success rate 👏#toollibrary
media/telecom giants (and the politicians paid to love them) have been waging a year long coordinated smear campaign against a qualified and popular FCC nominee, gridlocking the agency.
I talked about it with the verge:
Canadians deserve the #RightToRepair. 83% agree that automakers should be required by law to provide access to data so that they can continue to choose where they get their vehicle serviced and repaired. Thank you to #INDU for the invitation to speak to Bill #C244 today. #cdnpoli
We opened a Fixing Factory today! An actual shop on an actual high street!
People can bring their broken stuff and get it fixed for free. This will reduce waste, cut carbon, and help with the cost of living crisis in the local community.
& I just visited #RightToRepair advocate Michael McPherson at his farm in Mebane, NC.
"If we have a breakdown during harvest—if we have a hurricane coming in... I need to be able to use any means possible get this equipment going to save a crop." he told us.
& I just presented to a North Carolina commission investigating Agricultural #RightToRepair.
As always, we head claims from dealers and OEMs that farmers can fix 98% of problems with their tractors. This farmer's response was the best I've ever heard 🧵
DEFENDING LOCAL AUTO SHOPS: Congress considering a "Right to Repair" law that could even the playing field for local auto shops with large manufacturers.
Have you thanked a local infrastructure worker for your water, electricity, and internet today?
Remember: "innovation" comes and goes. Repair, connection, and maintenance are FOREVER.
the left jar is what comes in.
the right jar is what goes out.
this happens every day.

The Right to Repair fight is a glaring example of democratic dysfunction. Americans broadly and strongly support the right to fix their own stuff, or to take their stuff to the repair depot of their choice. How broadly? 13/
You know the joke.
Office manager: "$75 just to kick the photocopier?"
Photocopier technician: "No, it's $5 to kick the photocopier and $70 to know where to kick it." 1/
"People want to be able to repair their own stuff, and it looks like the FTC’s proposed regulation changes may be another step in the right direction."
Good stuff from
1. @FTC is seeking public comments on whether we should modernize and expand the Energy Labeling Rule's coverage to reduce energy costs for consumers and require manufacturers to provide customers with repair instructions.

Spent #repairday with Dermot and the fixers at Camden Fixing Factory. Currently running as a pop-up in the market outside, on 27 October it will open in its new premises. We need one in every town and high street.
