If you are dilated 1cm to 2cm, it doesn't necessarily mean that you're actually in labour.
Your cervix is usually tightly closed, but towards the end of your pregnancy, it will soften and, particularly if you've had a baby before, it's not uncommon to find that your cervix is a little bit open towards the end of pregnancy, even before you are in labour.
