I’m still in awe of the experience I had last week. Thank you Ebony Wrenn, Jasper Hendricks, III, Bekah Bischoff, Crystal Mcauley, and everyone with Mom Congress and MoMMA's Voices! I’m so glad I faced my fears and got on a plane so that I could be apart of such an amazing event. It’s so refreshing to see so many other women who share the same passion as I do for maternal health. What a blessing!

Today, over 100 moms from all over the country converged on DC for our annual Mom Congress Hill Day. We met with staffers and legislators to talk about the 2023 Moms’ Agenda, a package of bipartisan bills that have the potential to substantially improve the lives of mothers and their families in the United States. My employer - Voya Financial - offers employees 40 hours of volunteer time annually so we can spend time on the causes we care about. It’s one of the many reasons why I love Voya! Congressional Candidate for Maryland’s 6th District | Mobilizes Around Affordable Housing, Public Health, and Women’s Equality
Give it up for the moms who went to Capitol Hill yesterday to speak out against the failures of our maternal health system. 🙌🏾 America is the most dangerous place to give birth in the developed world. Since 2018, pregnancy related deaths in the U.S. have increased by 89%. African American women, like me, are 3-4 times more likely to die due to pregnancy related complications. The saddest part is that most of the deaths are preventable. Yesterday, I joined mothers from across the nation to advocate for maternal health and reproductive justice as part of the Mom Congress Hill Day. Much appreciation to my representative, Congressman David Trone and his amazing legislative team for caring enough about moms to take time to meet with us, listen to our stories of trauma and loss, and learn about the bills we believe could help improve maternal health outcomes. We are grateful to know that they are standing with us in this fight to end implicit bias and other barriers to care. America has a moral obligation to reduce pregnancy related deaths among all mothers, especially Black women. While we still have a long way to go in Maryland, it feels great knowing that we’re moving in the right direction. To all the mothers out there, please know you’re not alone in this fight. We see you and we’re working hard to build the support we need in Congress to make childbirth, recovery, and parenting easier for all of us and to give our babies the care they need to thrive. Kudos to the legislative staffers in the offices of Senator Ben Cardin, Senator Van Hollen, and Congressman Ruppersberger for also taking time to meet with us and learn more about our priority bills.
