Preparing Our Youngest Learners for Success in School

NVUSD is pleased to announce the expansion of our highly regarded TK program! TK offers children the opportunity to learn social skills and the academic foundational skills necessary to succeed in school!

TK provides children with a nurturing and safe classroom environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, problem solving, skill building and autonomy. Children will engage with their peers in whole group, small group and play group settings. TK is a low stress, developmentally appropriate environment created to help children prepare for the rigors of Kindergarten.

TK is taught by a credentialed teacher. Each classroom also has an aide. The ratio of adults to students is 1:12. This allows for children to receive the extra attention and help they need to become capable, confident learners. The instructional day is Monday through Friday for 4 hours.
Before and after school childcare is available at most school sites.

We will now offer TK to students who will turn 5 years old between September 2 and February 2.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can attend TK?
All 4 year old children who turn 5 years old between September 2 and February 2 will be eligible to enroll into an NVUSD school for 2022-23.

Which campuses will offer TK programs for the 2022/23 school year?
Assigning classes is dependent on our total TK enrollment. At this time the following schools will offer TK: Alta Heights, Bel Aire Park, Browns Valley, Donaldson Way, Napa Junction, Phillips, Pueblo Vista, Shearer, and Willow.

If my child starts TK at a school that is not my resident school, can they stay there for the rest of elementary?
You would need to utilize the open enrollment process when your child is entering Kindergarten.

If my child starts TK at a school that is not my resident school, do they have priority to return to their resident school for kindergarten?
Yes, for example, if your resident school does not offer TK and your child is placed at another campus, you can enroll your child at your school of residence for kindergarten.

How do I start the TK enrollment process?
