After a successful series of childrens’ author visits last year, NVUSD is hosting a new series for the 2021-2022 school year. Check here for new events added throughout the year.

EMMA SEPPÄLÄ, Ph.D is an international expert and parent educator specializing in the science behind resilience, willpower, compassion, positive stress, creativity, and mindfulness.
In her book The Happiness Track, she shares her insight, drawn from the latest in research in cognitive psychology and neuroscience, on why many widely-held theories about what it takes to be successful are proving to be counterproductive. Then she shares practical ways to apply this groundbreaking research in your day-to-day life.
Dashka Slater is a journalist and an award-winning New York Times Bestselling author of children's and adult books.
For her novel, The 57 Bus, Dashka received the 2018 Stonewall Book Award from the American Library Association and the 2018 Beatty Award from the California Library Association, among other accolades.
In this novel, Dashka tells the true story of two teenagers living in Oakland and the crime that changed their lives.
Napa High students started reading the book early this month and on Thursday, October 28th, secondary students from across the district will have the chance to join Napa High School Assistant Principal, Kate Gauger in conversation with Dashka Slater. After, we will post a recording of the event for everyone to watch.
Daniel Nayeri was born in Iran and spent some years as a refugee before immigrating to Oklahoma at age eight with his family. Daniel is also a professional pastry chef, a motorcycle enthusiast, and a board game aficionado. He currently lives with his family in New Jersey.
His book Everything Sad is Untrue (A True Story) won the Michael Printz award and received starred reviews from Booklist, School Library Journal, Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books, Publishers Weekly, and was an NPR's 2020 Book Concierge and New York Times What to Read choice.
After reading the book, Anne Grant’s eighth-grade class at American Canyon Middle School met with Daniel Nayeri at the end of November. Students from across the district will now have the chance to view the video and listen to the lively and often funny conversation with such an amazing and personable author!

Joanna Ho is the New York Times bestselling author of Eyes that Kiss in the Corners, Eyes that Speak to the Stars and Playing at the Border: A Story of Yo-Yo Ma. An author and educator, Joanna’s passion is to write books that reflect her heritage. She holds multiple advanced degrees and has been an English teacher, a dean, and currently the assistant principal of a high school in the Bay Area. In addition, she has two children, loves trips to the beach, chocolate chip cookies, and a very special brand of ice cream!

Kyle Lukoff is the author of When Aidan Became a Brother a Stonewall-award-winning picture book that “sets a new standard of excellence in transgender representation,” according to a Kirkus starred review. The book is a Rainbow Kit book in NVUSD elementary schools that focuses on gender inclusion and developing self-identity.
