  • Salary: EUR 4194.94 gross monthly, plus benefits (including flexible working hours, presence in the Brussels office with some teleworking from Belgium possible, additional leave days for family care, transport to the office covered in Belgium, complementary pension support, 13th month and holiday allowance, lunch vouchers, training budget)

About the role

The EDRi Office has a key role in supporting EDRi’s member organisations and network of affiliates, observers and partners. The Senior Membership and Community officer, together with another Senior Membership and Community Officer, and colleagues from other teams, co-leads the membership and community strategy development and implementation. 

The new colleague will facilitate knowledge-sharing, organise online and in-person events, support coalition-building and contribute to creating opportunities and spaces for reflection, meetings and networking. 

In addition, the role supports EDRi members with the implementation of decolonising processes and practices. The colleague will support EDRi in building reciprocal coalitions and partnerships to support our vision of change. 

We are looking for an individual experienced in movement building, coalition-building and knowledge-sharing that will bring good organisational and people skills to the team. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Coalition building

  • Work with colleagues and EDRi members to research and identify coalition partners in accordance with EDRi’s objectives
  • Strengthen existing partnerships and coalitions, including the Digital Dignity coalition
  • Support the EDRi team with organising events, workshops and other coalition activities 

Decolonising process 

  • Support EDRi members and colleagues to engage in decolonising reflections and practices
  • Contribute to joint field-building and transformative change initiatives with the Digital Freedom Fund and digital rights, social and racial justice organisations 

Knowledge sharing

  • Lead EDRi’s knowledge-sharing and documentation strategy 
  • Develop spaces and tools for EDRi members and partners to learn from each other
  • Contribute to and coordinate internal EDRi communication

Network development

  • Develop and implement an EDRi membership strategy in cooperation with EDRi colleagues, Board and members
  • Research and answer to EDRi members’ needs and requests
  • Coordinate the content and logistical aspects of EDRi’s events including workshops, panels, annual Privacy Camp, and General Assembly 

REQUIRED SKILLS 

  • Organisational skills and project management skills 
  • Coordination, multi-tasking and coalition-building skills
  • Community building skills
  • Strong written and spoken English skills

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of and experience in organisational development, network development, reciprocal coalition-building and communities engagement;
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in a civil society organisation or professional context;
  • Interest in human rights and social justice issues, in particular, privacy, surveillance and law enforcement, anti-discrimination, freedom of expression and more in a digital rights context
  • Experience in knowledge-sharing and documentation of change processes;
  • Experience in a membership organisation or in coordinating movements of social change, including working with activists and volunteers
  • Excellent organisational skills;
  • Excellent people skills including active listening, empathy and understanding for lived experiences of activists;
  • Excellent level of English;
  • Knowledge of another European language is an advantage;
  • Knowledge or awareness of decolonial theory and practice is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of Wikis, database management systems, mailing lists and free and open software is an advantage.
