Distributing $13,850,000 in summer grants, Hearst Foundations aided 97 organizations across the country, including Miami Children’s Museum, ACE Scholarships, Lung Cancer Research Foundation and the Youth Empowerment Project, furthering their initiatives in culture, education, health and social services.

The Hearst Foundations serve as a national philanthropic resource and have distributed more than 22,100 grants to 6,335 organizations, totaling $1.4 billion since 1946. In 2021, nearly 320 grants were awarded, totaling $41.7 million, including COVID-19 and Texas winter storm response grants. This year, the foundations’ work continues to help people of all backgrounds in the United States build healthy, productive and inspiring lives.

Grant proposals are submitted by organizations around the country and reviewed by staff based in New York City and San Francisco. These requests are then brought to the board of directors for approval each quarter. The Hearst Foundations are independent private philanthropies operating separately from Hearst.
