From Hilary Fung, Deputy Creative Director for Graphics and Engineering:

The San Francisco Chronicle is excited to announce that Jenny Kwon is joining the staff as a graphics reporter.

Kwon recently completed an internship at The Seattle Times, where they used graphics and interactive stories to cover education, healthcare and more. Previously, they worked as a data journalist at the San Francisco Public Press, covering health and housing.

“I couldn’t be more excited for Jenny to join the team,” said Deputy Creative Director Hilary Fung. “They’re bringing us local reporting experience, data and visualization skills and a passion for journalism that creates a better, more just society.”

Kwon graduated from UC Berkeley with a major in public health and minors in journalism and data science. During their time at Cal, they worked as an open-source investigative researcher at the Human Rights Center.

“The Chronicle covers many of the Bay Area communities that I care deeply about,” Kwon said. “It’s an honor to join this newsroom. I look forward to creating visually appealing and accessible graphics stories, and addressing local issues with nuance.”

With Kwon’s hiring, the new graphics and engineering team is complete.

“Jenny’s drive to explore new ways to visualize data and tell challenging stories makes them an excellent addition to The Chronicle newsroom,” said Creative Director Danielle Mollette-Parks.
