Previous Next 1 of 8 The ABCs of heart-healthy eating

If you've had acute coronary syndrome, you're at risk of further heart problems. Eating a healthy diet can help reduce your risk of a heart attack.

Start by eating more fish, a healthy alternative to high-fat meats. Certain types of fish are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which can lower blood fats called triglycerides. You'll find the highest amounts of omega-3 fatty acids in cold-water fish, such as salmon and mackerel.

Eat a serving of grilled or baked fish at least twice a week. Use lemon juice and spices as seasoning, rather than a cream sauce. Avoid fried fish, which is high in calories and might have trans fats.
