Howell Mountain Elementary School District (HMESD) is a small, rural, single-school district located in Angwin, California. For more than 125 years, Howell Mountain School has provided students with an exceptional public education from the early years in transitional kindergarten through eighth grade. We are a small school with a personal touch. Serving just over 90 students, our small size affords us the opportunity to understand and accommodate the individual needs of every single student in our care.

Dear Families!
This past year was like nothing any of us have ever experienced, and we are finally beginning to emerge from the storm into brighter days. I want to thank our families for their patience, flexibility, and willingness to partner with us in new ways. I also want to recognize our staff for how tirelessly they have worked to support our students and families. As we move forward, we will maintain a commitment to continuous improvement. We are excited about our new schedule of daily art and music and our ability to provide the education that our stakeholders have requested. Additionally, we will continue to lead the way in hiring and investing in the most qualified staff, integrating cutting edge technology for 21st century learning, providing much needed social-emotional support for students, and engaging students in deep and meaningful learning. I am proud of this school and this community as we strive to be “Leaders of the Pack.”
