What is Mental Health?

Mental health can be complex—it’s our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. When we can cope with the normal stressors of everyday life, work productively, and contribute to our communities, we are mentally healthy. But life happens and we hit bumps in the road, impacting our mental health and increasing the likelihood of developing mental illness. PrairieCare is here to help you find of hope and healing.

At PrairieCare, we believe that mental illness is real, common, and treatable. Our programs and services span the full continuum of care, knowing that each patient has their own unique experiences and set of needs. Whether an individual is experiencing depression, anxiety, or a complex disorder like ADHD or an eating disorder, our clinicians are accredited and trained to help and support patients during their time with us.

Nearly one in ten youth are experiencing psychiatric distress, ranging from anxiety and depression to inattention, eating disorders, or psychosis. In 70% of cases, the onset of a mental illness appears before age 14. For children, the earlier the intervention the better the outcome! For adolescents, suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for youth ages 10-24. As teens, the amount of social and academic stress can take a toll on their wellbeing. In adulthood, individuals experience a multitude of change, opportunities, stress, and responsibility. One (1) out of every five (5) adults experiences symptoms of a mental illness, but the stigma often keeps individuals from seeking help. How do we care for mental health?

PrairieCare meets each patient where they are at and caters their care to their unique and individual needs. We recognize that our patients lead busy lives, so our programs and services are designed with flexibility in mind. Our full continuum of care allows for individuals to increase, decrease, or change their treatment plan based on the appropriate level of care desired.
