The Lede
Migraines are lot worse than headaches, but how do you know if you've got one? Julia Jones, a neurologist at Houston Methodist Hospital told Lifehacker, that normal headaches feel like "a dull, cap-like pressure." She adds: "They usually don’t interfere with activities, and they don’t bother people enough to go see the doctor."
Key Details
- A migraine, however, is "a throbbing or pulsatile pain on one side of the head that progresses or gets worse with time," Jones says.
- The pain from a migraine can last for between 4 to 72 hours, and symptoms include light or sound sensitivity, nausea and vomiting.
- Some sufferers also experience an aura before their migraine sets in, which can cause visual disturbances.
