What is Meta Quest 2?

Note: You do need a compatible smart phone to complete the initial setup for Meta Quest 2.
Cast to a screen with Meta Quest
Casting with Meta Quest allows you to share what you’re seeing in VR with others around you. You can cast to your computer, phone, or supported Chromecast device.
- Download the Oculus mobile app to your phone.
- Make sure your phone and headset are on the same Wi-Fi network and that they can directly communicate with each other.
- Your TV or device must support Chromecast. If it's not supported, you can cast to your phone's Oculus app.
- From the Oculus app, tap Menu then tap Casting.
- Tap on your headset then tap the device you want to cast to.
- If you don't see your screen at first, tap Other Devices to search your network for an available device.
Tap Start to begin casting.
Tap Stop casting in the Oculus app when you're ready to stop sharing.
Note: If you close the Oculus app or open a different app on your phone, casting will be stopped.
If you're having issues trying to cast:
- Restart your headset, phone and your casting device.
- Before you begin casting, make sure your headset and the device that you’re casting to can directly communicate with each other.
- Check for software updates on your headset, phone and your casting device.
- Restart your Wi-Fi router.

- Certain mesh networks and corporate or certificate-based networks may not support casting due to blocks for security purposes.These blocks are common on home guest networks, corporate and commercial networks (ex: at a hotel or airport), and some cellular tethering systems. If you can’t connect your casting device and headset to each other, please try a different network.
- TVs with built-in Chromecast or other smart functionality may be supported, but compatibility can't be guaranteed with all models.
- You may experience issues when casting and recording simultaneously.
- Casting may increase battery usage or degrade in-app performance.
Voice Commands
Voice Commands is a feature that allows you to perform different actions using your voice. This can be used for things such as navigating your settings, launching applications and resetting your headset view. Learn more about which commands you can say.
Other people in calls and apps won’t hear what you say to Voice Commands after you wake it, but they may hear you say “Hey Facebook”. Your voice will be able to be heard after you complete your voice command. You can choose to change this in Settings.
Turn on Voice Commands
- Press on your right Touch controller to pull up your universal menu.
- Hover over the clock on the left side of the universal menu. When Quick Settings appears, select it to open the Quick Settings panel.
- Select Voice Commands.
- Select Start Setup.
- Choose between Continue Setup and Set Up Later. You can always manage this option later in Settings.
- Select Enable Shortcut or Not Now. This shortcut allows you to double press to initiate a Voice Command. You can choose to skip this shortcut, or manage this feature by going to your Settings, selecting Device, then selecting Voice Commands.
Use Voice Commands
- If you set up the Voice Commands shortcut, press twice and skip to step 4, otherwise press on your right Touch controller to pull up your universal menu.
- Hover over the clock on the left side of the universal menu. When Quick Settings appears, select it to open the Quick Settings panel.
- Select Voice Commands.
- You’ll be prompted to give a voice command. If you’re unsure of what to do, try “What can I say?” to see a list of supported commands.
- Try a voice command, like “What time is it?” or "Show me Store."
Using Voice Commands with "Hey Facebook"
When you log in with your Facebook account, you may have the option to enable the "Hey Facebook" wake word. Enabling "Hey Facebook" will allow you to activate Voice Commands on your Meta Quest 2 device.
To opt in and begin using "Hey Facebook":
- Press on your right Touch controller to pull up your universal menu.
- Hover over the clock on the left side of the universal menu. When Quick Settings appears, select it to open the Quick Settings panel.
- Select Settings in the top right corner, then select Experimental
- Select the toggle next to "Hey Facebook" to turn this feature on.
Enabling "Hey Facebook" may affect the performance of some apps. If in-app performance is affected, "Hey Facebook" will turn off automatically and you'll receive a notification. "Hey Facebook" will still be available in Home.

Change Voice Commands voice
To choose a different voice to interact with:
- Press on your right Touch controller to pull up your universal menu.
- Hover over the clock on the left side of the universal menu. When Quick Settings appears, select it to open the Quick Settings panel.
- Select Settings in the top right corner, then select System.
- Select Voice Commands, then select Edit next to Voice Selection.
- Select a voice from the list to hear an example. Once you've found the voice you want to use, select Save.
Recent Voice Commands
A record of phrases spoken while using Voice Commands can be viewed from the Meta Quest app on your mobile phone.
To see recent voice commands:
- From your mobile device, open the Meta Quest app.
- Tap your profile picture in the top left.
- Tap Account Settings then tap Voice Activity.
To delete the list of commands spoken:
- From Voice Activity, tap Clear All.
- Tap OK to confirm you want to delete the list of commands.
Turning off Voice Commands
- Press on your right Touch controller to pull up your universal menu.
- Hover over the clock on the left side of the universal menu. When Quick Settings appears, select it to open the Quick Settings panel.
- Select Settings in the top right, then select System.
- Select Voice Commands.
- Ensure the toggles next to In-App Voice Commands and Controller Shortcut are set to the off position.
Quest 2 Removable Foam Facial Interface Recall
As more people started using Quest 2, we received reports that a very small percentage of Quest 2 customers were experiencing skin irritation after using the Quest 2 removable foam facial interface. We’ve been working hard to address the issue, working with experts and making adjustments to our manufacturing process, and communicating proactively with regulators.
The safety and comfort of every customer is our top priority. As part of this commitment we are now offering a free silicone cover to Quest 2 headset and Quest 2 Fit Pack owners globally.
To request a Quest 2 Silicone Cover, click or tap on “Start Your Process” and follow the instructions below. For those who have additional questions please refer to the FAQs here.
To find your Quest 2 serial numbers:
- Headset: On the right side of your headset, gently pull the strap back away from the strap arm until it pops off. Your headset serial number will be on the inside of the strap arm.
- Box/packaging: On the outside of your Oculus Quest 2 box, look for a white sticker marked with a barcode. Under the barcode, find S/N followed by the 14-digit serial number.
- My Account: From your My Account page, go to the Devices section and your headset and its serial number can be found here.
- Oculus App: Open the Oculus app and click Devices at the bottom. Your headset and its serial number can be found here.
What is happening?

Important: do not discard your current foam facial interface, as you will need it in order to install the Silicone Cover correctly.
How is the facial interface impacting certain consumers?
A small percentage of consumers are experiencing skin irritation. The vast majority of cases are mild and cases should resolve on their own.
Is Quest 1, Rift, Rift S or Go impacted?
No. Quest 1, Rift, Rift S and Go are not part of the recall.

If you are experiencing skin irritation where the facial interface meets the face, please stop using your Quest 2.

Yes, facial interfaces in the Fit Pack are eligible. As you go through the silicone cover redemption process, you can indicate you purchased a Fit Pack and these covers will ship separately when they become available. They will be free and available to anyone who has purchased a Fit Pack.

No, the facial interface recall only affects Oculus Quest 2.

If you are a remote worker, please contact your Oculus for Business admin to request a Quest 2 Silicone Cover.
Solve known issues with Meta Quest Link
Quest Link PTC compatibility
If you've opted into PTC using the PC software, Meta Quest Link will not work properly over the next few releases. Please disable PTC access if you intend to utilize Link.

Quest Link Laptop compatibility
We’re aware of an issue where Meta Quest Link fails to connect compatible laptop models to Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest.
From your headset, you may see a brief black screen before being returned to your Meta Quest home. On your computer, within the Devices tab you may consistently see an orange “General device problem” error.
When entering this state for the first time, sometimes you will also see a notification on your PC: “Hardware Notification: Something went wrong and Link stopped working”.
We’ve isolated this issue to laptops using NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10xx series notebook GPUs and are actively working with our partners to get a fix in place. Until a more permanent fix is ready, restarting your PC can often fix the issue temporarily.
If you’re still having trouble with Link after restarting your computer, please contact Customer Support for additional troubleshooting.
Compatibility with software like OBS and XSplit.
If you're unable to capture video of your VR content, make sure that you've chosen your CPU as your Video processing device.
USB cable compatibility
If you're using your own USB 3.0 cable for Quest Link, please make sure that your cable meets the following requirements. For more information, check our Link Cable Requirements.
Quest Link not working after PC driver update
We're aware of possible issues that can occur with the latest AMD driver update. If Air Link worked for you previously, rolling back the driver to a previous version will work as a quick fix while a more permanent solution is being worked on.
Meta Quest mic stops working when using Quest Link
The Meta Quest mic may not function properly when using Meta Quest with Link at this time. We plan to fix this in the next few updates.
