Add and map a domain
Custom domains for sites hosted on the VIP Platform are added in the VIP Dashboard, and can be added before their DNS is pointed to VIP.
Prerequisites
To map a domain to an application’s environment, a user must have an App write role or greater for that application.
- The
www
version of a domain is actually a subdomain of the non-www
(root) version of a domain. The DNS for both versions of the domain must be updated to point to VIP. - When a domain is added to the VIP Dashboard, by default the
www
or non-www
variant of the domain will also be added. - Redirects between the
www
or non-www
variants of a domain are automatic on single sites but must be configured for multisites. - The fully qualified domain name (FQDN) for a site on the VIP Platform can be either the
www
or non-www
variant of the domain. - A site will not be publicly accessible at the new domain until the site is launched and DNS for the domain has been pointed to VIP.
