Our Story

HarBeck was conceived over a greasy burger at a roadside joint near Westcliffe, Colorado in 1992. Sitting at the table while taking in the beauty of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Rebecca and Riley shared their energy and vision for creating a company that would fuel their passion for behavioral psychology and innovative training techniques. The dream was to employ a facilitative style that created psychological safety and fun for learning. Thus, The Harbeck Company was created.

Pooling their resources—including 14 years as a college psychology professor in the States and abroad (University of Hong Kong), extensive publications including a top selling textbook that is translated in five languages, 600 hours of instruction and training in Playback Theater, psychodrama, and sociometry—they decided that the most predominant goal of the Harbeck Company was to make learning fun, make it relevant, and make a difference in the lives of the participants.

Their first client walked through the office door in 1993. The couple was hosting key people in a demonstration of their learning programs and methods and hundreds of hand-written invitations went out. “I’m mainly here because I want to meet the individual who took the time to hand-write these invitations,” said the HR director for AT&T. It was a long and mutually beneficial relationship. It gave them confidence and showed them how important it was to take the time to develop a detailed and personal relationship with their clients.

30 years later, their commitment to the workplace “classroom” has not wavered. They continue to help people and teams move past old habits that create dysfunctional systems.

The HarBeck Company’s main office location is in Dallas, Texas, and a second location on The Winsor Trail on top of Santa Fe Baldy outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
