A three-alarm fire broke out Tuesday afternoon at 1604 McAllister St., the San Francisco Fire Department said.

About 100 firefighters responded to the scene, the department said, and described the fire as “heavy” in the second- to third-floor area of the building.

The fire was contained around 2 p.m.

Fire officials said one person was rescued and another was injured but that both would recover. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries while battling the blaze, but both were able to return to the scene to help mitigate the fire.

Two businesses were affected by the fire, according to the department.

The Red Cross responded to the scene to meet with the 13 displaced residents and determine their immediate needs.

The fire remained under investigation.
