What is the Health Professional Academy?
The Health Professional Academy is a free online learning channel for professionals involved in antenatal, postnatal and paediatric healthcare. It’s brought to you by the publishers of Emma’s Diary, the UK’s favourite parenting club for expectant and new mums, and parenting website Families.
Our Mum & Baby Academy has been serving the needs of maternity professionals for the last three years. Building on this success, we’ve broadened our reach to include Child Health and Pharmacy, bringing everything together under an overarching Health Professional Academy. We currently have more than 20 CPD modules available, spanning a variety of topics.
We believe that high-quality, clinically robust, independently reviewed and accessible online CPD courses form the basis of best practice. Thanks to sponsorship from carefully selected health and pharmaceutical brands, we’re able to provide this free of charge.
Who is the Health Professional Academy for?
The Health Professional Academy offers free online CPD courses and resources for professionals involved in antenatal, postnatal and paediatric healthcare – whether that’s in the hospital, community or pharmacy setting.
To help you find resources relevant to your daily practice, the Academy is split into three areas:
How is the Health Professional Academy funded?
We partner with carefully selected health and pharmaceutical brands after they’ve been vetted by our academic board. The funding we receive is used to develop content, distribute materials and maintain the website.
We do not work with or take funding from any formula milk organisations.
Can I access the Health Professional Academy on any device?
Yes, you can access all our materials from a mobile, tablet or desktop computer. However, when completing a module we recommend using a desktop for the best user experience.
How often is the Health Professional Academy updated?
We regularly review all CPD modules and learning resources to make sure they’re still relevant and up to date. We also listen to feedback to ensure we’re still meeting the needs of healthcare professionals and adding new subjects where needed.
How do I sign up for Health Professional Academy email alerts?
Be the first to hear about new free CPD modules or resources by signing up to our email alerts or newsletter.
When you register for free with the Health Professional Academy, you’ll have the opportunity to sign up for email notifications that interest you.
What is the Health Professional Academy’s social media policy?
We encourage you to mention and link to the Health Professional Academy on social media. However, please maintain professional standards at all times. Please do not, for example, use our channels to reveal confidential information about patients or comment on your organisation. If in doubt, please refer to your employer’s policy on the use of social media.
My company is interested in sponsoring a CPD module. How do we do this?
We welcome new partners interested in promoting best practice in antenatal, postnatal and paediatric care, so please contact us to find out more.
Can I use the Health Professional Academy modules as part of my CPD?
Yes, you can use our CPD modules to fulfill your revalidation requirements. The Education and Standards Team at the Nursing and Midwifery Council confirm that: “It is for individual nurses and midwives and their employers to decide whether any particular training course is relevant to their practice.” (June 2015)
All our modules undergo a rigorous editorial review to ensure clinical accuracy and independence.
How long does each CPD module take to complete?
Everyone learns at a different pace and will have different levels of pre-existing knowledge. However, we estimate that most people will take around 30 minutes to read the CPD module and work through the reflective and multiple-choice questions. Take the time you need and reflect this when logging your CPD for revalidation.
How does the CPD learning log work?
If you are signed into the Health Professional Academy your learning log will automatically record your progress – including your reflective learning and the score on your factual quiz. Once you’ve completed the module, you can download or print a certificate to add to your CPD record.
I’d like to use the materials for a study day. Can you send me printed copies?
Yes, absolutely! Just drop us an email and we’ll post them out to you.
Can I photocopy or distribute materials supplied by the Health Professional Academy?
You’re welcome to photocopy our materials for your own personal use. You can also pass a single photocopy or send materials electronically to another healthcare professional. You must not, of course, pass your completed CPD to others.
If you want to distribute multiple copies of our resources, e.g. for teaching purposes, please contact us. Any commercial use is strictly prohibited without written permission from the publishers – please contact us if you need more information.
If you wish to photocopy materials supplied by our partners, again, please contact us.
In most instances, we would recommend downloading material from the website or providing a link to the Health Professional Academy website using our social ‘share’ buttons.
Can I use the slides in presentations?
Yes, you can use the slides for educational presentations, as long as the content is not changed and the Health Professional Academy is clearly stated as the source. Any commercial use, including sponsored educational meetings, is strictly prohibited without written permission from the Health Professional Academy. Please contact us for more information.
Can I post the material on my website or blog?
We encourage you to post a link to the Health Professional Academy on other educational sites and blogs by healthcare professionals, as long as these are not commercial pages.

I have a question about a patient. Can you help?
We’re unable to answer any questions relating to the care of specific patients.
Please note that no suggested test, procedure or treatment should be performed unless, in the healthcare professional’s judgment, its risk is justified. Because of rapid advances in the medical sciences, healthcare professionals should independently verify diagnoses, drugs and dosages, tests, procedures and other management approaches. The mention of a specific product does not imply that the Health Professional Academy endorses the product or recommends its use. You use this site and the associated materials at your sole risk. To the extent permissible under the appropriate laws, no responsibility is assumed for injury and/or damage to persons or property as a matter of products liability, negligence or otherwise, or from any use or operation of ideas, instructions, methods, products or procedures contained in the site or the associated materials.
I have a question for a partner organisation, can you help?
