I have not had a headache since surgery and overall feel really well. I don’t like to sit still for long, and I am sure my doctors would agree, as there is so much more I want to do. No time to waste!

I worked every day while going through the treatments and fed off the positiveness of family members, the Mayo staff and the kids and staff at work. I am thankful, grateful and blessed to have a wonderful facility like Mayo so close to home.

The surgery was October 25th and I was back to work November 11th. I had 35 #ProtonBeam radiation treatments starting in December and my last one was three months later on February 2nd 2017.

Dr. Van Gompel stated he thought they could get 85% of the tumor and the first report to my family on surgery day was they got 99% of it.

He told me there would be a team doing the surgery and he’d be the quarterback. As a coach, I know what it takes to be a part of a team and even though I didn’t know the “game plan�, I was ready to get rid of the tumor and I put my full trust into this team.

Going to Rochester the first time was a little overwhelming. I met with Dr. Laack first, and she laid out what she and the department were going to do and what additional testing I needed. She was very positive with me and I loved that she was on my team.

When I did go to the ENT doctor, he decided to clean out my sinuses. It was then he found the #ClivalChordoma tumor. That doctor called Mayo Clinic and told me and would take on my case.

After taking antibiotics for 10 days with no change I was told it was probably viral instead of bacterial and to wait it out. I went back to urgent care in August and was diagnosed with sinus infection, given antibiotics and told if it wasn’t better, I would be referred to ENT.
