One of the first projects of its kind in the world, Whitetail Clean Energy will represent millions of pounds invested into Teesside, through building a NET Power plant at Sembcorp Energy UK’s existing Wilton International site.
It will generate up to approximately 350 MW of clean power, available whenever it’s needed, while capturing its CO2 for sequestration.
This eliminates all emissions, including air pollution and CO2, and inherently produces pipeline-quality CO2 that can be sequestered, all while operating at competitive cost and efficiency.
Carbon capture projects such as Whitetail Clean Energy are essential to the UK’s transition to a Net Zero future.
Up to 350 MW of power with virtually zero emissions is made possible by the revolutionary NET Power technology, with early grant funding provided by the UK government.
Whitetail Clean Energy accelerates the UK’s ten-point plan for decarbonisation and achieving Net Zero emissions
Whitetail Clean Energy is expected to bring a significant investment into Teesside, potentially creating over 2,000 direct, indirect, and induced jobs during peak construction and 200 indirect and direct highly skilled jobs during operation.
The technology will capture over 800,000 tons of CO2 per year for storage beneath the North Sea, while emitting no air pollutants.
This technology was proven by NET Power and represents a game-changing advance in the search for solutions to climate change, one that makes today’s fossil fuel power plant’s economically and environmentally obsolete.
NET Power’s semi-closed loop technology leverages oxy-combustion to produce emissions-free power.
NET Power burns natural gas with pure oxygen. The resulting CO2 is recycled through the combustor, turbine, heat exchanger, and compressor, creating lower-cost power with net zero emissions.
