Leandro Pereira do Nascimento Lo (11 May 1989 – 7 August 2022) was an eight-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion.[2] He also won titles at the World Cup, the Pan American Championship, and the Brazilian National Jiu-Jitsu Championship.[3] He held an unbeaten winning streak at the Copa Podio from 2011 to 2013.[4] Lo earned his black belt under Cicero Costha at Cicero Costha Academy in São Paulo, Brazil.[citation needed][5] In 2015, he created the New School "NS" Brotherhood team.[3] His guard technique earned Lo recognition as one of the "best pound for pound grapplers to have ever graced the mat."[5]

Death[edit]

Lo was shot in the head after an altercation with an off-duty military police officer at a party in São Paulo, Brazil on 7 August 2022, and died on his way to the hospital. He was 33.[6][7][8][9][10]

Based on information from witnesses, an argument took place between Leandro Lo and military policeman Henrique Otávio Oliveira Velozo, who was off duty, around 2 am.[11] The São Paulo Public Security Secretariat reported that a civil police officer asked for the preventive detention of Henrique Velozo, who was identified as the shooter.[12] The perpetrator was later arrested on 8 August.[13]
