Benoy (Russian: Беной, Chechen: Бена) is a rural locality (a selo) in Benoyskoye Rural Settlement of Nozhay-Yurtovsky District, in Chechnya, Russia. Population: 1,216 (2010 Census);[1] 2,389 (2002 Census);[2]
History[edit]
In 1944, after the deportation of Chechens and Ingush, and the abolition of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, the village of Benoy was renamed Ichichali[3] and populated by people from neighboring Dagestan.[4]
After the restoration of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in 1958, Ichichali was reverted back to its previous name Benoy, and the Dagestanis were resettled back to Dagestan.
