2021-2022 Report

Prepared by: Jamie Micco, PhD, ABPP (Chair)

The Professional Education Committee (PrEC) produces peer-reviewed webinars, panel discussions, and symposia focused on a wide range of professional topics within the domains of anxiety, depression, and related disorders. The PrEC also collaborates with the Conference Committee to provide input on annual conference programming.

The PrEC currently has eleven active members, in addition to Dr. Barbara Kamholz (Senior Advisor for Professional Education) and Dr. Risa Weisberg (Board Liaison). Dr. Jill Emanuele will be taking over as Board Liaison in March 2022.

In 2021, the PrEC produced 14 live and 6 recorded webinars for a total of 20 webinars. Topics varied widely across the domains of anxiety, depression, and professional practice. The PrEC also produced the third annual Fall Forum, which focused on Depression Across the Lifespan. The Forum invited two keynote speakers (Alan F. Schatzberg, MD, and Gabriela Livas Stein, PhD) as well as a diverse, engaging expert panel.

The 2021 webinars with the highest enrollment included:

  1. Integrative Behavioral Therapy for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors with Marla Deibler, PsyD, and Renae Reinardy, PsyD (98 registrants)
  2. Suicide and Suicide Prevention: Ethical and Legal Perspectives with Jacob Appel, MD (97 registrants)
  3. Optimizing Exposure Therapy for Youth with Complex Comorbidities with Emily Becker-Haimes, PhD, and Hannah Frank, PhD (96 registrants)
  4. Managing Barriers to Reduce Family Accommodation in Pediatric OCD with Jennifer Park, PhD, and Robert Selles, PhD (92 registrants)

Our plans for 2022 include:

  • Producing Fall Forum 2022 in October or early November 2022: Topic TBD
  • Surveying the membership to determine topics of greatest interest and to best meet its educational needs.
  • Increasing the disciplinary and cultural diversity of the PrEC. We plan to focus on inviting specific individuals from a diverse group of post-doctoral fellows and early career members to apply to be a part of PrEC. We especially hope to increase the number of MDs and licensed master's level mental health professionals. Other members who are interested in joining the committee can contact Sasha Sicard at [email protected]
  • Increasing our library of on-demand webinars.
  • Continuing to work on increasing the reach of our webinars beyond the ADAA membership.
