- 2Posted 9/9/21I have sensitive skin and so did my son so I use cetaphil for bathing and lotion and then aquaphor for all diaper creams. Also different topic but make sure you have gripe water and gas drops. Both were so helpful and not something I thought of as a FTM
- Get a good humidifier. Air innovations has a great one, like $90 at BBY or Amazon. Sounds silly, but when babies get colds, stuffy noses and coughs dr’s do not prescribe anything because antibiotics don’t treat viruses and babies can’t take cough suppressants. Saline drops to loosen mucus in the nose and a great humidifier work wonders. Desitin, butt paste or calmoseptine are great barriers to help, or prevent, diaper rashes. Aquaphore healing ointment is a good thing to have and keep in pockets or bags. It’s a barrier ointment that can be put anywhere (face, skin, or diaper area). Great for irritated noses (during cold season), eczema patches, lip balm when going out in the winter, for chapped lips and cheeks, and for irritation in diaper area. Fruit of the Earth vitamin E cream works great on your hands, which will get dry from extra hand washing, and cradle cap if your baby gets it. It’s also a great on burns. Some people like a bulb syringe for stuffy noses. I personally would just jump in the shower holding my kids, or sit on our cheap spa/shower chair. It just clears up mucus really good and babies never minded just snuggled. Nail files, the regular brownish orange ones. It’s just easier to file nails when baby is snuggled and sleeping than to clip them. Especially if their nails grow fast, baby files are to tiny to work with. For yourself get a good verity of pads if it’s a vaginal delivery. Your bladder might not work so well and can take 1-6 to go back to normal. Don’t be afraid to get some super absorbent ones, too. If you are coffee, or tea, drinker don’t forget some extra and filterers.
- aPosted 9/9/21We typically do water only washing until around 6mo when baby is becoming more mobile and starts eating solids. Then we use a cetaphil wash, we use cetaphil or eucerin for lotion, and aquaphor for the diaper region (with my first we would change her often, pat her dry after cleaning, put a thin layer of aquaphor and she never had a diaper rash).
- TeddyasaurGroup OwnerPosted 9/9/21Babies have natural oils that generally keep them clean, too many baths and it can lead to dry skin or other issues. I know it's not super common but water baths are perfectly fine until 6 months. If you're not comfortable with that, thats okay too but I thought I'd bring it up anyway 🙂. I like using baby dove body wash, I haven't found a lotion that is great for the kiddos but we've been thankful that my kids don't suffer from dry skin like their daddy does.
- Dove fragrance free bar soap and Boudreaux’s butt paste. There are electric baby nail files on Amazon. I CANT recommend this enough. Baby nails are HORRIBLE. I accidentally nicked my daughter once and my more steady/more capable husband went to do it. He cut off a big chunk of thumb and we ended up at the doctors to stop the bleeding. The nail file is quick, gentle, and no fear of cutting tiny baby skin.
- Johnson and Johnson and honest worked fine for us.
- lPosted 9/9/21Like some have said, I don’t bathe baby in too many products during the first 6 months and when I do I mainly use water. Once a week I may use a mild natural body wash. For body wash and shampoo I always use Shea Moisture Baby products. After 6 months I use pure aloe Vera gel directly from the leaf on baby’s hair. It’s also safe to use on the skin as well. I also use coconut oil as a moisture. For diaper rash, I use aquaphor or A&D ointment.
- Vaseline works well as a skin barrier to prevent diaper rash. (My daughter never had a diaper rash because if this) Also after reading these comments I think that I had over washed my first baby, and will try water baths when needed for my second.
