Wikipedia:Proposed article splits
This page has a backlog that requires the attention of willing editors. Please remove this notice if and when the backlog is cleared. |
This is the page to make requests for the splitting of an article into two or more separate articles.
This process is usually undertaken to keep articles from becoming too large or unfocused; but may also occur when an element of an existing article gains substantial notoriety in its own right. In such a case, requests for splitting-off said content from an existing article into a newer, stand-alone article, should be directed here. After familiarizing yourself with the splitting process, please make your requests for article splitting below. We will also attempt to get more people to comment on proposals, however, if the split is contested or potentially controversial, it may be best to run the discussion through Requests for Comment or Articles for Creation instead of here.
All split comments and discussions should be directed to the "discussion" subsection of the Original Article's Talk Page, NOT here.
Note[edit]
Splits of CATEGORIES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
Splits of TEMPLATES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Templates for discussion.
MERGING of ARTICLES should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Proposed article mergers.
Split requests[edit]
If you need assistance with proposing a split, list it below and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the split completed, as there may be a backlog, and splits often require considerably more discussion than, for instance, a merge request. To request a split, list the article below as well as requested target article title(s). Include a short descriptive reason why you think a split is in order. Please sign your request(s). Thank you.
Making a request[edit]
If you need assistance with proposing a split, list it below in "NEW REQUESTS" and someone will make sure it's properly listed. Note that this will not get the split completed on its own. After a split is listed properly, move it to the "Answered requests" or "Awaiting consensus" sections below as appropriate. Please list new requests at the bottom of the section. Use the edit summary and list at least a link to the original article. Please legitimize your request by signing each listing or comment by typing four tildes (~~~~). Unsigned requests can not be honored.
To request your split, copy the following template, paste it at the bottom of the NEW REQUESTS section, and fill in (replace) the article titles specific to your request. (NOTE: Often the original article name and one of the preferred new names are the same. However, at least one of the preferred new name(s) should appear red.) Indicate if your request will involve Page Moves, creating Disambiguation Page(s), or any other related work. Also, please indicate if you are willing to do the split if such a consensus is reached.

NEW REQUESTS[edit]
- Split Punjabi University into Punjabi University and Yadavindra College of Engineering. See discussion at Talk:Punjabi University#Proposed split. Quality Check (talk) 18:47, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- Proposed Split - Richard Childress Racing into Richard Childress Racing (providing a summary overview of the broader organisation), Richard Childress Racing No. 3 Car Team, Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series, and Richard Childress Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Article is currently the ninth largest on English Wikipedia because it attempts to cover 15 different sports teams across 3 different leagues in a single article on the grounds that they are all owned by the same person. See discussion at Talk:Richard Childress Racing#Page size. HumanBodyPiloter5 (talk) 18:08, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- Split USSR State Prize into USSR State Prize and List of the USSR State Prize laureates. The article is too long and the recipients list is not full yet - it can grow further. See discussion at Talk:USSR State Prize#Split proposal. I can perform the split if consensus is reached. Less Unless (talk) 14:26, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
Split Veiled Prophet Ball into Veiled Prophet Ball and List of Veiled Prophet Queens. Article is now too long and is getting longer as sources are added. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 02:15, 25 December 2020 (UTC)I can do this myself if there is no objection. BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 02:20, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
- Split Forged in Fire into Forged in Fire and List of Forged in Fire episodes. With all the season/episode tables, the article is extremely lengthy. The long tables also detract from the series' flow of production information, etc. See the discussion on the talk page: split. If it helps speed up the support process, the proposed draft can be reviewed at Draft:List of Forged in Fire episodes. CYAce01 (talk) 17:53, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
- Split Regional municipality to Regional municipality (Ontario). If agreed, I cannot do the split; however, I could try to mock-up new articles in DRAFTspace. This article is misfocused and unbalanced. It derives its intro and much of its content from Ontario, inapplicable to the other jurisdictions found in the article. To rebalance and unbias the article, Ontario would be split off, and a summary left behind, with a new intro. See discussion at Talk:Regional municipality#Split article (2021). 65.93.183.33 (talk) 12:38, 26 February 2021 (UTC)
- Split Woke into Woke and Movement against decolonialism and identitarian ideologies. If agreed, I accomplish this split. See discussion at [[Talk:Woke#Proposed "split" [sic] for "contra wokeness" material (as otherwise tangential to our topic at hand?)]]. Hodgdon's secret garden (talk) 21:53, 19 March 2021 (UTC)
- Split TYPO3 into TYPO3 and Neos_(content_management). If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:TYPO3#Extract_Neos_Section_into_separate_article. Kopfaufholz (talk) 15:49, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- Split Rif Dimashq Governorate campaign into Battle of Damascus (2012–2018) and Rif Dimashq Governorate campaign. There were large battles within the city of damascus, and a lot of news articles recognize them and i could bring up sources. So we should split it to an article for the battle for the city, and the province itself. See discussion at Talk:Rif Dimashq Governorate campaign#Proposed split. Ridax2020 (talk) 12:53, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
- Split List of fictional antiheroes into List of fictional antiheroes in literature, List of fictional antiheroes in film, List of fictional antiheroes in television, List of fictional antiheroes in anime and manga, List of fictional antiheroes in comic books and List of fictional antiheroes in video games. The list is simply too large and difficult to navigate; such that some tables are made collapsable. Kailash29792 (talk) 06:38, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
- Split List of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul characters into List of Breaking Bad characters and List of Better Call Saul characters. The list is too large and convoluted. Kailash29792 (talk) 19:10, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- Split Australian Defence Force ranks into Australian Defence Force ranks and Royal Australian Navy ranks (possible further splitting into Royal Australian Navy enlisted rank insignia and Royal Australian Navy officer rank insignia. If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:Australian Defence Force ranks#Split Page. IronBattalion (talk) 23:09, 2 May 2021 (UTC)
- Split List of awards and nominations received by the Degrassi franchise into List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi Junior High, List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi High, List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi: The Next Generation and List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi: Next Class. The list is way too long and convoluted. The fact that it is sorted by award and not by series, while I feel it isn't necessarily wrong, is a bit hard to follow for such a large franchise. Each series has a wealth of sourced awards and nominations that would warrant standalone articles anyway, especially Degrassi: The Next Generation. If the consensus is against splitting Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High, their awards and nominations can also easily be reproduced in prose on their respective pages. If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:List of awards and nominations received by the Degrassi franchise#Proposed split. ToQ100gou (talk) 04:43, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
- Split Line of Duty (series 6) into articles for each individual episode. See discussion at Talk:Line of Duty (series 6)#Split proposal. RoanokeVirginia (talk) 21:24, 10 May 2021 (UTC)
- Split Metroid Dread into Metroid Dread (cancelled video game) and Metroid Dread (2021 video game). If agreed, I will do the split. See discussion at Talk:Metroid Dread#Proposed split. LucianoTheWindowsFan (talk) 18:27, 15 June 2021 (UTC)
- Split 2020-2021 United States racial unrest into 2020-2021 United States racial unrest and List of incidents and protests of the 2020-2021 United States racial unrest. This article appears too long with a huge list of events and incidents and it may help readability to split them off into a separate article. See discussion at Talk:2020–2021 United States racial unrest#Separate page.
- Split Anti-schooling activism into Criticism of schooling. The article is a WP:COATRACK consisting mostly of the arguments of the movement. If agreed, I will do the split. See discussion at Talk:Anti-schooling_activism#Proposed_split_to_Criticism_of_schooling. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 06:45, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
- Split E11 European long distance path into E11 European long distance path and Baltic Forest Hiking Trail. If agreed, I will do the split. See discussion at Talk:Original article#Proposed split. Anna-Sara Reinisch (talk) 18:10, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- Split E9 European long distance path into E9 European long distance path and Baltic Coastal Hiking. If agreed, I will do the split. See discussion at Talk:Original article#Proposed split. Anna-Sara Reinisch (talk) 18:13, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
- Split State University of New York Upstate Medical University into State University of New York Upstate Medical University and SUNY Upstate College of Medicine. If agreed, I will do the split. See discussion at Talk:Original article#Proposed split. Jumbotron88 (talk) 18:37, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- Split Capture the Flag into Capture the Flag and Capture the Flag (cybersecurity). If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:Capture_the_flag#Splitting_proposal. Mehrpw (talk) 11:00, 15 July 2021 (UTC)
- Split Gummibär into Gummibär, Gummibär discography and Gummibär and Friends : The Gummy Bear Show. If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:Gummibär#Splitting_proposal. Manchesterunited1234 (talk) 12:43, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
- Split Special Forces of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces into Spetsnaz GRU (Soviet Union) and Spetsnaz GRU (or "Spetsnaz GU" / "Spetsnaz GRU/GU (Russia)" / "Spetsnaz GRU/GU (Russian Federation)", as appropriate), as partially discussed here. If agreed, I cannot do the split. Discussion should be had here. RadiculousJ (talk) 04:12, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- Split Vice (TV series) into VICE (HBO TV series) and VICE (Showtime TV series), or VICE (2013 TV series) and VICE (2020 TV series).
They need splitting because although VICE is technically the same overall show, Showtime (TV network) started their 2020 series with new episodes under the label season 1. They've since released a new season 2 in 2021. Therefore HBO's season 1 and 2 from 2013 and 2014, has nothing to do with Showtime's season 1 and 2 from 2020 and 2021, as they're both completely separate shows. Danstarr69 (talk) 09:11, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
- Split Beta-Carboline into Norharmane and Beta-Carbolines. If agreed, I {will} or {cannot} do the split. See discussion at Talk:Beta-Carboline/Archives/2021#Proposed split. Also see archive Machinexa (talk) 09:25, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
- Split List of highest scores in figure skating into List of highest scores in figure skating and List of miscellaneous records in figure skating. This second article already exists in the existing article as its own section but it is updated and referenced frequently and doesn't contain any scores. If agreed, I can do the split. See discussion at Talk:List of highest scores in figure skating#Proposed split. DoctorTamago (talk) 07:09, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- Split Marvel's Avengers (video game) into Marvel's Avengers (video game) and Marvel's Avengers post-release content. If agreed, I can do the split. See discussion at Talk:Marvel's Avengers (video game)#Proposed split. Haleth (talk) 07:09, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- Split David Attenborough into David Attenborough and List of Achievements, awards and recognition received by David Attenborough as it a very large article (at 143K) and probably best for a spilt 92.236.253.249 (talk) 08:36, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- Split National_Museum_of_Brazil#2018_fire into National Museum of Brazil fire because there's already an long consensus against the merge and supporting the split in Talk:National_Museum_of_Brazil#Merge_with_fire_article. If agreed, I cannot do the split. Erick Soares3 (talk) 13:53, 5 September 2021 (UTC)
- Split Skate (video game) into Skate (video game) and Skate (series), so that the latter will provide a brief overview of the entire series in anticipation of the upcoming fourth game. If agreed, I will do the split. See discussion at Talk:Skate (video game)#Proposal of series overview article. EntertainmentZ (talk) 22:33, 22 November 2021 (UTC)
- Split Abreha and Atsbeha into Abreha wa-Atsbeha (Aksumite Rulers) and Abreha wa-Atsbeha (church). This article about the possibly fictional twin rulers contains a handful of information about the church named in their honor. I propose that the section about the church should be split into two separate ones: one about the rulers (in this case, the original article without the section "Church of Abreha wa-Atsbeha") and a separate one focusing more on the church (the section "Church of Abreha wa-Atsbeha"). If agreed, I will do the split. See the discussion at Talk:Abreha and Atsbeha#Proposed Split. -IntellectuallyOlder(Alt. Account) (talk) 19:01, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
- 'Split All Too Well into All Too Well and All Too Well (Taylor's Version). If agreed, I (or members of the Taylor Swift WikiProject will do the split. See discussion at Talk:All Too Well#Proposed split. Ippantekina (talk) 04:53, 27 November 2021 (UTC)
- Split portions of China, History of China, Republic of China (1912–1949) and Taiwan into China (region). The debate of using “Taiwan” and “China” are separate countries isn’t long enough since China is politically divided into two governments since 1949 as a result of the Chinese Civil War. See RFC and discussion at Talk:China (region)#Restoration of the article proposal. 184.146.39.97 (talk) 08:21, 1 December 2021 (UTC)
- Split Christian Science into Christian Science and History of the Christian Science movement. If agreed, I will do the split. See discussion at Talk:Christian Science#Splitting proposal. Shuri42 (talk) 16:00, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
- Split LGBT in Argentina into LGBT in Argentina and LGBT history in Argentina. If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:LGBT in Argentina#Proposed split. Aleksandr Sokolin (talk) 21:37, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
- Split List of professional sportspeople convicted into crimes into List of professional sportspeople convicted of crimes and List of professional baseball players convicted of crimes. The baseball section is certainly large enough to make its own page (and I've got several more articles bookmarked so as to expand it) and this article is already above the size at which it should "almost certainly should be divided" per Wikipedia:SIZESPLIT. I'm sure several of these sections could be big enough to become their own standalone articles if given a bit more attention. My only concern, however, is whether these sections would be notable enough as standalone articles. Dennis C. Abrams (talk) 23:39, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
- Split Science and technology in the United States into Science in the United States and Technology in the United States. If agreed, I {cannot} do the split. See discussion at Talk:Science and technology in the United States#Should be split up. Mrbeastmodeallday (talk) 09:46, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
- Split Ultimate Fighting Championship into two or three articles. It is way to large, two or three times the maximum size suggested. If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:Ultimate Fighting Championship. 2603:7000:2143:8500:589D:21E0:7739:C0D2 (talk) 07:12, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
AWAITING CONSENSUS[edit]
After the involved article is tagged for the split discussion, the request should be added at (or moved to) the bottom of this section. This section can also be used if a proposal needs further discussion due to age, disagreement, or lack of consensus.
- Split Chrysler into FCA US and Chrysler. The article is currently titled "Chrysler" but this is a misrepresentation because the name of the company is FCA US. "Chrysler" is the name of the predecessor of FCA US, but today it is merely the name of one of FCA US's brands. The differentiation can only be made if this article is split. See discussion at Talk:Chrysler#Moving the Chrysler marque to its own page. (Talk:Thunderbolt.wiki 1:37, 18 July 2020 (UTC))
- Comment Ongoing discussion has not yet reached a consensus. GenQuest "scribble" 19:33, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
CYAce01 (talk) 08:09, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
- Split Kevin Johnson (basketball) into Kevin Johnson (basketball) and St. HOPE. See discussion at Kevin Johnson (basketball)#Proposed split. Ddang17 (talk) 22:52, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- Split 1983 Upper Voltan coup d'état attempt into 1983 Upper Voltan coup d'état attempt and 1983 Upper Voltan coup d'état. I propose that section August coup can be split into a separate page called 1983 Upper Voltan coup d'état. The successful coup on August 1983 is arguably more notable than the February 1983 coup attempt, and I believe it can be easily split into its own separate page. See discussion at Talk:1983 Upper Voltan coup d'état attempt#Splitting proposal. KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 02:05, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
- Split National Museum of Brazil into National Museum of Brazil and National Museum of Brazil fire. There seems to be a consensus. only one participant is opposed, who implemented the merger through edit warring. Can someone take a look, close, and split? Eccekevin (talk) 01:37, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
- Comment See discussion at Talk:National Museum of Brazil#Merge with fire article. Candido (talk) 12:58, 6 August 2021 (UTC)
- Split List of Latin words with English derivatives into List of Latin nouns with English derivatives, List of Latin verbs with English derivatives, and List of Latin adjectives with English derivatives. Current article is too long. Blubabluba9990 (talk) (contribs) 13:31, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- Split 2017 in home video into 2017 home video film releases and 2017 home video television releases. Current article is far too long. Blubabluba9990 (talk) (contribs) 14:16, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
- Split List of solved missing person cases into List of solved missing person cases (before 2000) and List of solved missing person cases (2000-present). Current article is too long. Blubabluba9990 (talk) (contribs) 17:58, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- Split The history sections of Door County, Wisconsin and Door Peninsula into History of Door County, Wisconsin. The Door County, Wisconsin article became (or still is) too long. This option would re-unite the two history sections. About a year ago, half of the history section had been moved to Door Peninsula to save space on Door County, Wisconsin.--Epiphyllumlover (talk) 00:22, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
- Split (DISCUSS) I Can See Your Voice and I Can See Your Voice (disambiguation) into I Can See Your Voice (franchise). The current state of the disambiguation page is incorrectly functioning as a basic franchise article, and the Korean-edition article is also incorrectly functioning as the franchise article. If agreed, I may be able to do the split, if I have not rotated off my IP address at that time so that I can be informed; if I have rotated, I may nolonger have this discussion linked to. As an IP user I may be reverted in any changes I make. See discussion at TALK: I Can See Your Voice#Split (2022): Create franchise article. -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 14:11, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
- Split Science and technology in the United States into Science in the United States and Technology in the United States. If agreed, I {cannot} do the split. See discussion at Talk:Science and technology in the United States#Should be split up. Mrbeastmodeallday (talk) 09:42, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
ARTICLES TO BE SPLIT[edit]
After discussion concludes, completed requests indicating SPLIT is to be carried out should be moved below (to the bottom of this list). Notate as {{Working}}
ARCHIVED and REJECTED Split Requests[edit]
When article discussion and split has been completed (if closed as proceed), notate and move the request to the TOP of the following ARCHIVED list. Articles that have been rejected for splitting should go here directly from the AWAITING CONSENSUS list. Please notate both types as {{Done}}, or {{Not done}}.
- Split (DISCUSS) Domingo into Domingo (name). The people section of this disambiguation page is rather large, so it is better to split it off into a separate name set index page. If agreed, I may be able to do the split, if someone creates a redirect at the target location first, page creation is a protected process, so I can't actually create a new page. I may be able to do it if I have not rotated off my IP address at that time so that I can be informed; if I have rotated, I may nolonger have this discussion linked to. As an IP user I may be reverted in any changes I make. See discussion at TALK: Domingo#Split off the people section to Domingo (name). -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 20:30, 3 April 2022 (UTC)

- Split WWNN into WWNN and WRBD. See discussion at Draft talk:WRBD. AngusW🐶🐶F (bark • sniff) 21:09, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- Not done Consensus is against a split. GenQuest "scribble" 19:55, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- Split Rui Borges (footballer) into Rui Borges (footballer, born 1973) and Rui Borges (footballer, born 1981). The current article is mixing up two players of the same name, one who has a Wikipedia article and one who doesn't. Here are profiles of both players from a Portuguese database: [1] [2] The footballer born 1973 who is the current subject of the article is not the same man who managed Mirandela and Academico Viseu and now manages Academica. This reference for when a man called Rui Borges became manager of Mirandela in 2017 said he was 35 and played for "Bragança, Trofense, Moreirense, Famalicão and Freamunde". This clearly identifies that Rui Borges as being the one born in 1981. 109.153.12.180 (talk) 20:05, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
- Moot Request withdrawn following standard copy editting. GenQuest "scribble" 19:43, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- Split We_Need_Answers#No_More_Women into We Need Answers and No More Jockeys. The game was always separate from the erstwhile TV programme, and now has its own YouTube channel etc and needs more saying about it. The earlier placeholder should link to new main article instead. The change of game's name is not the point. Please see Contested Deletion at Talk:No_More_Jockeys.
- Not done Minor, small article on defunct 2 season show does not qualify for would result in two perma-stubs. GenQuest "scribble" 19:07, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

- Split Philippine Health Insurance Corporation into PhilHealth and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. See discussion at Talk:Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. RioHondo suggested on move request that the content related to the health insurance program (PhilHealth) must be separated from the company article (where a summary of the program can be kept). - Split Pipeline transport into Pipeline transport, Oil pipeline* and Gas pipeline*. The oil and gas pipeline may end up in one article or in their own articles. The current article is heavily based on oil and gas pipeline, while other kinds of pipelines have a much lower weight. See discussion at Talk:Pipeline transport. - Split Community into Community (settlement) and Community (sociology): to distinguish between the only tenuously related 1) original human geography sense of the term, based on physical living environment; and 2) the subcultural derived meaning of intentional community, voluntary association, and self-selecting participation. What we have right now is basically a messy WP:COATRACK situation. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 00:21, 27 July 2018 (UTC)

- Split Content from List of transgender characters in film and television into a page titled List of transgender characters in television series. I'm doing this because although the page needs help with more sources, it is currently too big, violating the rules laid out on WP:SIZESPLIT.
