Friends
BuddyPress’s friends component is a way for members of your social network to identify that they know other members. Friendship is requested from one member, and accepted by another. Like other components, Friends works best when other components are active:
- When the Activity Stream component is active, these relationships are logged to both member’s activity streams, allowing anyone to see the relationships other community members have made.
- When the Groups component is active, it allows members to invite their friends to join groups they are administrators of.
- When the Settings component is active, members can choose to turn off new friendship notification emails.
One common use case is to help identify which members of your community have met in person. Using the Friends component as a way to say “we’ve bowled together” or “I met you at a meet-up” is a great way for your members to keep track of everyone they’ve bumped into in the past.
