IPA opened an office in Burkina Faso in 2013 to diversify and expand its presence in the region. Because the population relies heavily on farming, our research has focused primarily on agriculture, as well as on microfinance and sanitation.
Our studies in Burkina Faso include measuring the impact of innovative financial products for farmers, and the effects of techniques aimed at improving farm productivity. In the capital, Ouagadougou, we are working with researchers to design and test alternative pricing structures in the sanitation sector with the aim of increasing access to improved sanitation. Another evaluation is testing how citizen participation could improve governance at the local level. The Burkina Faso office is expanding rapidly and diversifying its portfolio of research projects.
