Community bulletin board

Welcome to the community bulletin board, which is a page used for announcements from WikiProjects and other groups. Included here are coordinated efforts, events, projects, and other general announcements.

Good Article Nominations backlog drive runs from 1 June 2022, 00:00 (UTC) and ends on 30 June 2022, 23:59 (UTC). It is a month long effort to cut the number of outstanding GANs.
Wikipedia:WikiCup. The WikiCup is a championship that has taken place every year on Wikipedia since 2007. The Cup is played and won by skill of editing. The purpose of the Cup is to encourage content creation and improvement and make editing on Wikipedia more fun. There is a new round every month, until the current contest ends; below are the details.
- May 1 to June 28 – 32 contestants left.
- July 1 to August 29 – 16 contestants left.
- September 1 to October 31 – 8 finalists left, the contestant with the highest score will win!

Monthly or continuously ongoing events

Monthly contest, WikiProject Military history. The contest department of the Military history WikiProject aims to motivate increased quality in military history articles by offering a form of friendly competition for project members making improvements to them. The primary contest available is a simple rolling competition that awards points for improving articles. The contest runs from the first to last day of each month.
Guild of Copy Editors' editing blitz. The June 2022 editing blitz is a one-week long effort of the Guild of Copy Editors to reduce the backlog. This month's themes are: requests from March, April, and May 2022, and articles in the September and October 2021 backlogs. It ended 25 June 2022, 23:59 (UTC). Stay tuned for the next event.

Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red June 2022 Events: Translation Contest, LGBTQ+ women, Greenland and the Faroes, and Women in Music.
The 100,000 Challenge. The quest to bring about 100,000 article improvements and creations globally through a series of 50,000/10,000/1000 Challenges for different regions and countries. This is a loose challenge, a list will not be maintained here, but the components will function independently on each of the subpages. Will be updated every week or two.
- The 50,000 Destubbing Challenge is a long term challenge to destub 50,000 articles on English Wikipedia for every country and topic. It may take decades to accomplish, it may take ten years, it all depends on how many people actively contribute.

Recent changes

The Wikipedia App for Android now has an option for editing the whole page at once, located in the overflow menu (three-dots menu ). [1]
Some recent database changes may affect queries using the Quarry tool. Queries for site_stats at English Wikipedia, Commons, and Wikidata will need to be updated. Read more.
A new user_global_editcount variable can be used in abuse filters to avoid affecting globally active users. [2]

Changes later this week

The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 June. It will be on all wikis from 23 June (calendar).
Users of non-responsive skins (e.g. MonoBook or Vector) on mobile devices may notice a slight change in the default zoom level. This is intended to optimize zooming and ensure all interface elements are present on the page (for example the table of contents on Vector 2022). In the unlikely event this causes any problems with how you use the site, we'd love to understand better, please ping Jon (WMF) to any on-wiki conversations. [3]

Future changes

The Beta Feature for DiscussionTools will be updated throughout July. Discussions will look different. You can see some of the proposed changes.
Parsoid's HTML output will soon stop annotating file links with different typeof attribute values, and instead use mw:File for all types. Tool authors should adjust any code that expects: mw:Image, mw:Audio, or mw:Video. [4]
