Fee Waivers

Main content start

An application fee should not stand between you and your future degree. If you are considering Stanford graduate programs and need assistance with the application fees, consider applying for a fee waiver.

We especially encourage such applications from first-generation, low-income students, and students from systemically marginalized backgrounds who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Stanford Engineering is committed to increasing the diversity of our student body. With this commitment in mind, we are able to offer a limited number of fee waivers to applicants experiencing financial hardship. There are a few ways prospective graduate students can apply for fee waivers:

It is important to note that if the application fee waiver is approved, then the applicant will be sent a code to enter in the payment section of the online application. No refund will be given if you apply for a fee waiver and pay the application fee instead of using your application fee waiver code.

GRE Fee Reduction Voucher

The Educational Testing Service (ETS) offers a limited number of GRE Fee Reduction Vouchers for college seniors and unenrolled college graduates who meet eligibility requirements.

“On the day I submitted my application I thought that even if I was accepted, my family and I could not afford the cost. Looking back, I’m so glad I didn’t let that stop me from applying.”
