Overview

CHAI began supporting Indonesia’s Ministry of Health in 2006 to improve HIV diagnosis and treatment in the Papua and West Papua regions. CHAI helped the government implement its Rapidly Expanding Access to Care for HIV/AIDS (REACH) program to expand access to quality HIV care, treatment, and support services, and train thousands of health workers. CHAI helped the government establish nine Centers of Excellence (CoE) to serve as regional referral centers for complicated cases and to serve as a base for expert teams to provide technical assistance to primary health centers. In the last five years, we have expanded work to help reduce the burden of hepatitis, save the lives of women and children through improved access to vaccinations including the nation-wide scale up of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs), improve access to pediatric cancer treatment, and oxygen availability in response to COVID-19. CHAI is also seeking more opportunities to support Indonesia in other programmatic areas such assistive technology, other communicable and non-communicable diseases.
