The Tao covers the ten thousand things like flood waters.
It flows in all directions.
The ten thousand things depend on it.
The Tao denies none of them.

Laozi, Tao Te Ching, Verse 34

Vital articles are lists of subjects for which the English Wikipedia should have corresponding featured-class articles. They serve as centralized watchlists to track the quality status of Wikipedia's most important articles and to give editors guidance on which articles to prioritize for improvement. The most important articles are at Level 1.

This is Vital articles Level 4, a list of 10,000 subjects for which the English Wikipedia should ultimately have featured-class articles. This list is in the process of being refined and prioritized on the basis of topic-by-topic discussion and voting on the talk page. Articles should not be added to or removed from this list without going through the nomination and voting process on the talk page. Everyone is welcome to participate.

This list is tailored to the English-language Wikipedia. There is also a list of ten thousand articles considered vital to Wikipedias of all languages, as well as Vital Article lists tailored to different Wikipedia languages accessible via the languages sidebar.

Please make sure items added into the Level 4 list also have been added to the Level 5 list once and only once.

Because of its size, Vital articles Level 4 has been split into eleven sublists. As of March 28, 2022, this list includes 10,003 individual articles.
