While data brokers often claim that geolocation data is “anonymized,” location data is never anonymous. If a phone’s location data shows where its owner sleeps at night or works during the day, it is very easy to find that owner’s name and address.

The 11th Circuit recognized platforms have a First Amendment right to curate content in upholding a block on Florida's social media law. With similar bad laws being considered in several states, we hope other courts follow the 11th Circuit's lead.

Under the FTC's proposed order, Twitter must notify users whose phone numbers and email addresses it abused to target ads and explain what processes it is putting in place to ensure this doesn’t happen again. It's about time.
