Recognizing Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

In May, we recognize Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in the United States. Throughout the month, we will be celebrating the culture, traditions, and history of our Asian and Pacific Islander associates through a variety of activities including panel discussions, coffee chats, and more.

We will be kicking the month off with a discussion about this year’s national AAPI Heritage Month theme, Advancing Leaders Through Collaboration. Asian American and Pacific Islander leaders and associates across Gartner will also be exploring the intersection of race, work, and culture and sharing personal stories about how they navigate Corporate America during the discussion.

Next, our associates are invited to an interactive Bystander Intervention training where they will be discussing the types of disrespect that Asian and Asian American folks are facing right now — from microaggressions to violence. In addition, they will learn what to look for and the positive impact that bystander intervention has on individuals and communities.

Interested in learning more about AAPI Month at Gartner? Our associates will be hosting an event on May 18 where they will share personal stories about breaking barriers and how representation matters. Discover how they’ve broken barriers in their career and check out their advice for someone interested in a career at Gartner below. Learn more and register for the event here

“I’m a first-generation college graduate and I had to quickly learn how to successfully navigate a corporate work environment and career on my own. I’m so appreciative of my mentors at Gartner and I pay it forward as often as I can.” Nina Moreno, Senior Product Manager

“Be yourself, don’t change who you are. Notice if you are “the only one in the room” and think about how you could change that.  Speak up for yourself, join Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), and support those who might be afraid to speak up. Recognize differences but without bias, appreciate the diverse culture we have within and outside of Gartner, be empathetic but be strong.” - David Mok, Research Engagement Services Manager

“I was the first person in my immediate and extended family in China to go to school for and work in a non-STEM field, which posed a lot of challenges early on in my academic and professional career because I felt like I oftentimes had little guidance on how to navigate school and jobs in my field of interests. Working at Gartner, especially in the Research unit, is a rewarding experience because of how intellectually stimulating the environment is. It’s such an interesting place to work, and the pervasive “Win as a Team” mentality really shines through in how much people here care about each other.” Leeann Ji, Senior Specialist, Research
