Potassium Iodide (KI) & Radiation Emergencies” and “potassium iodide (KI) can protect the thyroid from radioactive iodine (I-131) when used as directed in some radiation emergencies. It also describes the limitations of KI and its possible side effects. Do not take KI unless directed by a healthcare provider, or public health or emergency response official.
