Some news: yesterday, appointed me to be California's Chief Technology Innovation Officer. I was sworn in this morning, and am now part of the family. Could not be more excited by this opportunity to serve the state of California.

I’ve been gratified hearing from many people who have said that they’ve followed my lead in deciding what they'll do, and not do, in various stages of the pandemic. It’s a particularly confusing time now, so today’s 🧵 is a summary of the choices I'm making these days. (1/25)

Want to take a moment to thank the team for acknowledging and (quickly!) addressing my tweet this morning. Government CX isn't just a web experience. It's also meeting and engaging with people where they are.

Last Tuesday, April 5th, we launched the campaign to end the death penalty. I was thinking about Pat Sonnier all day. He was executed in Louisiana's electric chair on April 5, 1984. I was there. I saw it with my own eyes. And what I saw set my soul on fire.

Breathtaking. Horrifying. Also vital. Exceptional reporting from and , and awe-inspiring bravery from the many survivors. This is going to stay with me for a long, long time.

Driving past a bullet-riddled car - seeing investigators walk the highway picking up evidence - is unsettling (to say the least). Data suggests highway shootings have doubled in the Bay Area in the last couple years:
