    I'm being pointed to this thread. Reminds me of the discussion of America's food culture in 's An Economist Gets Lunch, and how our long supply chains privilege canned, prepackaged, and frozen foods over fresh produce.

    Food shipments in China are very time-sensitive due to our poor cold chain. Most Chinese want "fresh" not frozen or refrigerated foods. This is why massive amounts of food has been lost to spoilage in Shanghai as trucks could not make timely deliveries.

    Is there a good explainer on why Shanghai is having such severe food shortages? I get that there are booming cases and strict lockdowns, but the severity of their logistical problems seems like a totally avoidable governance failure. Feels like there's more to the story.

    If you favor a system where the ruling party can act in the general interest like a benign dictatorship, where traditional family is accommodated, subsidiary is respected, the Supreme Court is not central, and constraints on power are more normative than formal, move to Canada.
