Welcome to the tourist office

The Wikivoyage tourist office is a place where you can ask travel-related questions about any place in the world. Wikivoyage volunteers will do their best to find the relevant information (or just reply off the top of their expert heads) and reply to you.

Before you ask your question here, be sure to search our travel guide for the destination or topic you're considering. Many questions are already answered within our guides! In addition, some of our destinations have docents who have volunteered to answer questions about specific places. If neither of those avenues bear fruit, then please ask away!

This page is for travel-related questions only. Information on how to contribute to Wikivoyage is at Help:Contents, while questions about Wikivoyage itself may be posed at the Pub. Queries regarding general information on non-travel topics may be made at Wikipedia's Reference desk; some topics tangentially related to travel include:

  • the Humanities desk, which deals with geopolitics, culture, and human geography
  • the Science desk, which deals with natural processes, physical geography, and engineering (vehicles, transportation design, etc.)

Please note that we can not guarantee a response and can not be held liable for incorrect or outdated information.

Answered questions will be moved to the Archives after two weeks of inactivity.

Want a faster answer?

How can I get my question answered?

  • Explain clearly what you want to know.
  • Provide a short heading that gives the general topic of the question.
  • Tell us what part of the world your question applies to.
  • Don't post personal contact information – it will be removed. We'll answer here within a few days.
  • Don't post questions that common sense or a search engine can answer in a couple of seconds.

Disclaimer

This is a travel guide that anyone can edit and that relies entirely on volunteer contributions. We do our best, but nothing on this page or elsewhere on the site can be guaranteed to be up-to-date or entirely accurate.

In particular, check with other sources for questions that can have serious consequences:

  • With your doctor for health issues
  • With your own government, or another, for travel advisories that may help you avoid dangerous areas
  • With the government of the destination country for visas and travel restrictions
  • With a lawyer for other legal issues

Researching family history[edit]

Is there a central gathering of family history information where I could find my historical roots in Neubrandenburg,Germany? Asked by: 70.59.85.168 01:31, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there is anything related on this site. Personally, I don't believe there is any such resource, although there are general genealogical resources. You should probably ask at a suitable forum for genealogy. If you know German, that'd help, but many people in the USA are interested in their roots like you, so there are resources also in English. –LPfi (talk) 10:52, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As it turns out, the Latter Day Saints (Mormons), have a website with a lot of free genealogy information. Looks like you need to create a free account to see more, but I found my grandfather fairly quickly. JackHahne (talk) 11:46, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • While the LDS is alright for genealogical research, it's far from ideal as it involves a lot of manual scanning through handwritten and badly indexed records. Usually, Matricula and GenWiki/Online-OFB are good sources for this kind of work, but neither seem to have much for Neubrandenburg, let alone north of the Elbe at all. I would suggest that you contact the City Archives of Neubrandenburg (Stadtarchiv Neubrandenburg), and they might be able to tell you where to look. It would be handy to have names of ancestors that last lived in Neubrandenburg at hand though. Should you be from North America, there's a sizeable chance that they immigrated through Ellis Island. If that's the case, try to find the moment they emigrated in Ellis Island Foundation's Passenger Search, and hopefully the Stadtarchiv will be able to help you further with that information. -- Wauteurz (talk) 17:09, 17 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That, and the mormons are kinda culty, so I'd try something like ancestry for that kinda stuff 1st. 194.83.16.10 15:17, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Driving in Noord, Aruba[edit]

In the page for Noord, Aruba, it was mentioned that Noord is difficult to drive in...however, it was not stated why that is the case. Therefore, why is Noord, Aruba difficult to drive in--are there spikes in the road or massive hidden potholes? If one is going to say something is difficult, then you need to elaborate on that.

Strange. I went looking for reasons as to why driving in Noord is difficult, but TripAdvisor says all the roads are paved, so I'm confused. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 21:52, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
