Global Summer School’s academic programme is structured into two parts, taught on weekdays from 09.30 to 16.30, including one hour for lunch.

Part one: Academic sessions

You will develop academically and personally as you are inspired, challenged and supported throughout the programme by our experienced academics, researchers, Summer School leaders and mentors. There will be lots of opportunities to ask questions and discuss thoughts in classes and seminars.

Engineering

You will be given the opportunity to expose yourself to a broad range of new disciplines within the field of engineering, building your understanding of key concepts of design and engineering.

Physics

This stream focuses on the physics and mathematics of a central concept in the physical sciences. During the week, you will participate in lectures, workshops and laboratory sessions to gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

Medicine and Life Science

The Medicine and Life Sciences stream will introduce you to key research techniques and new subject content. You will also learn fundamental clinical skills in practical workshops led by health professionals at one of Imperial’s affiliated hospitals.

Part two: STEM Challenge

In part two, you will come together with students from other streams to share what you have learnt so far and help to solve a real-world challenge that our society faces today, led by the Imperial Enterprise Lab. You will have the opportunity to develop vital skills that you will need at university such as presentation, communication and group work, whilst working on a project that combines aspects from all three academic streams.

Masterclasses

There will also be the opportunity to participate in masterclasses which will help prepare you for the university application process in the UK. Topics typically include:

  • How to apply to a UK university
  • How to write a personal statement
  • Interview skills
