Passwords

Using a password creates a barrier between you and whoever is trying to access your information. By setting a strong password that you change periodically, you are protecting yourself and your data more effectively. The College also recommends using multi-factor authentication to further protect you and your data.

Key things to remember

  • Do not share your password with anyone. The ICT service desk will never ask for your password when you speak with them.
  • If you ever feel as though your password has been compromised, change your password.
  • Weak passwords are easy to break. Your password should include a mix of UPPER and lower case letters as well as numbers and symbols.
  • Do not recyle your password.
  • Password generators can be incredibly useful. They work by providing you a completely random password that will be near impossible to guess. ICT recommends using the Norton Identity Safe password generator.
