Staff should inform researchoffice.fundingstrategy@imperial.ac.uk of intent to apply to external funding when a letter of institutional support is required from the Vice-Provost (Research and Enterprise), President or Provost by the funder.

The Funding Strategy team in the Research Office will provide institutional statements where required and appropriate to the bid. Letters of support from the President, Provost or Vice Provost (Research and Enterprise) can be provided at the discretion of the team after assurance that the proposal is of appropriate quality, fits the remit of the call, and that any financial commitments on behalf of the College included in the proposal have been agreed by the budget holder(s). Institutional contributions or commitments should never be presumed and should always be referred; referral should be to the Head of Department and/or Faculty Dean for approval. This obligation will not negate the need for a lead Faculty, lead Principal Investigator or Bid Manager who must ensure that:

  • The Funding Strategy team is informed as early as possible of the intent to apply and of the submission deadline, via researchoffice.fundingstrategy@imperial.ac.uk
  • A draft Letter of Support is provided to the Funding Strategy team at least 10 working days prior to the submission deadline, along with a draft copy of the research proposal and evidence of the appropriate approvals for any contributions or commitments. Please note that it is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator or Bid Manager to provide the Funding Strategy team with a version of the Letter that is ready for signature. The Funding Strategy team may edit the contents of the final version at the request of the Vice-Provost (Research and Enterprise).
