STEAMd, Inc. is in the business of weaving dreams and sowing potential. The joy in this volunteer work is in seeing the young ladies come to the realization that they too can have a career doing "COOL" things in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math. I get such a great feeling of joy when I see their eyes light up and hear them say "I didn't know I could do that" or "I didn't know that's how that worked". It is my way of "giving back" for our future.
STEAM'D is an amazing grass roots (woman owned) organization that helps empower and promote young girls to pursue educational opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. The United States has been dropping to our lower ratings in recent years in the fields of Science and Mathematics. We need to bring the US back on top! And it is organizations like STEAM'D that will help bring back the skills and necessary curriculums to get young girls excited again to pursue STEAM careers and get these important fields back on the map! If you haven't checked out the STEAM'D.org website and you have young children you are missing out on an incredible opportunity to get your children engaged in a wonderful curriculum being offered by this phenomenal organization. I can't say enough about this organization!
True I am on the Board but this organization is so amazing to be a part of. Everyone involved is 100% committed to what they do, where they see this organization growing to, how we will get there, the importance of what we do. The highest compliment comes from the girls who have participated in our many activities and programs. A lot of shy girls walk through the door - but within minutes you can see they needed something like STEAMd, they wanted something like STEAMd, and they surpass our expectations every single time. The parents see the value add - which is important - but the girls see unlimited potential. How can you not love that???
STEAMd Inc, does a phenomenal job of getting girls to understand and love learning about STEAM careers. You witness a real confidence boost in the participants. It's a great program.
I attended most of the sessions at the STEAMdInc inaugural program and I have to say this is a life changing experience for the girls. Once they learn they can do it and they have the power to change their mindset and begin to consider the jobs in STEAM they become energized. For me the most important part of the program is helping the girls find their passion in STEAM. Helping girls recognize they have the potential to change not only their lives but to help solve problems with technology while making excellent salaries so they can be financially independent is very rewarding work!

Why STEAMd?
Only 16 percent of American high school seniors are proficient in mathematics and interested in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) career.
Less than half of young women who pursue a college major in a STEM field choose to work in a related career. The United States is falling behind internationally among industrialized nations, ranking 25th in mathematics and 17th in science. In today’s competitive global economy, this situation puts our nation’s youth at a severe disadvantage when it comes to future employment and quality of life.
By 2018, there will be 1.2 million US job openings in STEM fields, with a significant shortage of qualified applicants to fill them. Providing quality access to STEM education and careers to all children – especially girls, low-income youth, and students of color – is an economic and social justice imperative for the United States.
Women and girls continue to be significantly underrepresented in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEAM) education and careers. However, research shows that it’s not for lack of interest and further suggests that mentoring and training and would help to increase interest and pursuits in STEM education and careers.
