Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Assessment Tool for California

Find the DRDP-K (2015) for use with transitional kindergarten and kindergarten-aged children forms and resources»

The California Department of Education (CDE), in partnership with WestEd and the University of California Berkeley Evaluation and Assessment Research (BEAR) Center, developed a free assessment tool for transitional kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten (K) students. Districts can use this tool to provide useful information to teachers and administrators in order to better address students’ learning and developmental needs. The Desired Results Developmental Profile—Kindergarten (DRDP-K©) is developmentally appropriate, aligned to the Common Core State Standards for K, and provides valuable information about students’ developmental progress.

The DRDP–K is based on the previous DRDP–SR (2012)© instrument. It includes refinements made over the past several years and new elements that are essential to quality early childhood education. It aligns with the CDE’s Early Learning and Development Foundations and the California Content Standards for Kindergarten.

DRDP-K Developed from the Research Literature

The DRDP-K is grounded in the research literature that addresses the range of knowledge and skills that children demonstrate as they enter and progress through kindergarten.
