In January our city will have its second Black mayor, Manhattan its first Black district attorney, and now the NYPD it’s first female (third Black) commissioner. History is indeed being made with the incoming Adams administration and others. | via

  7. This is great news, but Pfizer’s estimates for how many courses they’re going to be able to produce (10 million for the USA, 70 million for the rest of the world) next year are much too low to save us — would love to hear policy ideas for getting us to higher numbers.

Obviously, the Paxlovid news is great. But I'm surprised that the approval bottleneck is getting so much more attention than the manufacturing bottleneck. Pfizer says they'll only be able to manufacture 80M courses in 2022 which is... not nearly enough.

This is so messed up! Rich countries hoard until vaccines are about to expire & then generously 'donate' them "A major problem for COVAX had been wealthy countries donating vaccines with a relatively short shelf life"

During the Great Depression the unemployment rate in America was 25%, but for Black Americans it was 50%. In some places Black unemployment was as high as 70%. Whenever there are economics crises, Black Americans are disproportionately impacted. We break it down in this episode.
