For over 50 years, the AMA Guides® (the "Guides") have been the trusted source that physicians, patients and regulators rely on for fair and consistent impairment rating guidance and tools. AMA Guides incorporate science, evidence-based medicine and assessment tools to provide a rigorous methodology to enable a fair and consistent evaluation. Until 2020, the AMA Guides were published once or twice a decade, and only as hardcover reference books, reflecting medicine at the time of publication.
In 2021, the AMA is bringing major enhancements to how Guides content is being updated and delivered. First, the AMA has established the Guides Editorial Panel, a team of knowledgeable physicians and expert advanced practice professionals who curate content updates and ensure that the Guides reflect current evidence-based medical practice. Content updates based on the most current medicine have been adopted by the Panel and will be released in AMA Guides Sixth Edition 2021. Second, AMA Guides Digital launched, making it easier for users to get the information whenever they need it.
Users can now digitally access the Guides Sixth Edition content, with the new 2021 content updates launching April 1, 2021.
Through our AMA Guides education module, physicians, regulators and other medical professionals will learn about the content and new processes for updating the AMA Guides. Effective July 1, 2021, AMA will consider AMA Guides Sixth 2021 the most current version of AMA Guides Sixth Edition. Get ready before these changes become effective.
