AMA CME Program Mission Statement
The AMA's mission as an accredited provider of CME is to promote the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health by developing high-quality educational activities that enhance and expand the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors of all physicians.
Content areas will consist of important professional and public health issues. Activities will develop clinical competence, promote professional excellence and foster physician leadership by addressing patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, systems-based practice, professionalism, and interpersonal skills and communication.
Specific content areas may include, but are not limited to: patient safety and quality, practice management, ethics, health care disparities, research, medical/legal issues, pharmacogenetics, and medical-economic issues. AMA CME activities will also support the AMA's strategic focus efforts related to accelerating change in medical education, improving health outcomes, and enhancing physician satisfaction and practice sustainability by shaping delivery and payment models.
In general, the program's audience is physicians. The specific target audience for an individual activity will be defined in conjunction with the determination of the educational needs, learning objectives and content for each activity.
The AMA will offer a variety of educational activities to reflect the diverse needs and learning styles of our physician audience. Activity formats may include live activities, enduring materials, journal-based CME, manuscript review and performance improvement CME.
Expected results of the AMA's CME program include:

Providing educational activities that improve physician knowledge, skills and competence.

Delivering unbiased educational content based on the best available evidence to our physician learners.

Assessing the impact of our educational activities on physician knowledge, skills and competence. Collaborating with external stakeholders on educational initiatives of mutual interest.

Improving the competence of AMA CME activity managers through educational interventions.

Continuously improving our overall CME program through regular evaluation by the CME Program Committee and Council on Medical Education.
Accreditation Information
The American Medical Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The AMA designates each activity for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™. Please see the specific activity for more information.
Complete/attend the activity that is designated for CME credit carefully and take the CME quiz. You can view and print a certificate awarding AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credit™ when you successfully complete the quiz. You may take a quiz as many times as you like until you complete it successfully. Once you complete it successfully, you cannot take the quiz again. Your credits will be tracked in your AMA Ed Hub profile.
Physicians who complete the CME course and score at least 80 percent correct on the quiz are eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credit™.

American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) member board certification and Maintenance of Certification® (MOC)
In support of physicians’ board certification, the AMA offers activities that are designed to support medical practices quality improvement (QI) initiatives for the purpose of earning CME credits and MOC Part IV points.
Each activity is divided into separate assessment stages:

Activities are approved for MOC Part IV points for most ABMS-recognized boards. You will be contacted by an AMA representative to learn more about the specialty board(s) to which you would like your MOC Part IV completion transmitted.

Automatic Reporting of Completed CME Activities to Your Specialty and State Medical Boards
To simplify and streamline your MOC and CME reporting for licensure and board certification, AMA Ed Hub reports successfully completed CME activity information on your behalf to certain specialty and state medical boards, unless you choose to opt out.
Through a collaboration with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), AMA Ed Hub automatically transmits successfully completed activities to the following boards for the purposes of earning MOC credit/points and/or supporting licensure requirements:
- American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM)
- American Board of Pediatrics (ABP)
- American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (ABOHNS)
- American Board of Pathology (ABPath)
- Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine
- Maine Board of Osteopathic Licensure
- North Carolina Medical Board
- Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners
If you are a physician who is certified and/or licensed by any of the above-mentioned boards, AMA Ed Hub automatically transmits successfully completed qualifying AMA CME activities. Not all AMA activities qualify for MOC automatic transfer, so make sure you check on the activity page of interest to verify eligibility.
