New Ways to Claim CME Credit from the AMA

The AMA makes it simple for you to get Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit for a variety of educational activities. You may also apply for the AMA Physician's Recognition Award by completing online applications directly through the AMA Ed Hub™.


  • Direct Credit

    If you completed certain educational activities that were not certified by an accredited CME provider, you may still be able to earn AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Apply for Direct Credit to claim AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ and get one certificate for each type of approved activity you have completed within the last 6 years. Learn More.

  • International Credit Conversion

    Apply for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for your participation in educational activities approved by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME®), the European Board for Accreditation in Cardiology (EBAC), the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners Accreditation Department (QCHP-AD) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).   • AMA Physician's Recognition Award (PRA)

    If you earn on average 50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ per year, you may apply and earn one of our PRA awards. We offer one-, two- and three-year AMA PRAs as well as PRAs with Commendation for more extensive educational activities. To be eligible, you must be a physician with a current license issued by a jurisdiction in the U.S., Canada, or Mexico, or you must be in an ACGME-accredited residency training program in the U.S. Learn More.

About AMA Physician's Recognition Award (PRA)

Demonstrate your commitment to patient care and life-long learning through continuing medical education (CME) earned in the past one to three years with the AMA Physician's Recognition Award (PRA). The PRA recognizes physicians who earn an average of 50 CME credits per year. The AMA offers one, two and three-year PRAs, as well as PRAs with Commendation. To be eligible, you must be a physician who holds a current license issued by a jurisdiction in the United States, Canada, or Mexico, or you must be in an ACGME-accredited residency training program in the United States. Credits are not given with this award. Apply for the PRA.
