UK Disability History Month is an annual event that creates a platform to celebrate and focus on the history of people with disabilities. Disability History Month runs from 22nd November to 22nd December every year. This covers HIV/AIDS Day (1st December), International Day of People with Disabilities (3rd Dec.) and International Human Rights Day (10th December).
UKDHM Themes
This year’s national theme is Leadership, Resistance and Culture. The Union has teamed up with the College and Move Imperial to bring an events calendar that examine the following:
- How the leaders of the disabled people’s movement have changed the way disability is seen
- The individual and collective resistance to the oppression disabled people
- The culture of the disability arts movement from which they drew their collective strength
Campaigns
As approximately 80% of all disabilities are hidden, Imperial is focusing on the hidden disabilities of our community. The Colllege and the Union will be joining forces on our new campaign More Than Meets the Eye, you can follow our campaign via our hashtag on social media #MoreThanMeetsTheEye.
