The Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDP 2015) is an observation- and judgment-informed authentic assessment used by the California Department of Education (CDE) Special Education Division (SED) to determine the effectiveness of its early intervention and early childhood special education services. It is used in all CDE-funded early childhood programs, including the Early Learning and Care Division’s (ELCD) State Preschool Program and CDE Head Start programs.
The DRDP (2015) provides special educators with useful information for planning and individualizing instruction, measuring children’s progress, sharing information with families, and refining curriculum.
The Project’s support to the field includes:
- Assuring the appropriate assessment of children with IFSPs and IEPs with the DRDP (2015).
- Providing training, resources, and activities to help the early childhood special education community use and benefit from the DRDP (2015).
- Collecting and analyzing DRDP (2015) statewide data for the CDE, SED’s federal child outcomes reporting for the State Performance Plan (SPP) for the Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP).
- Conducting ongoing research to support the validity, reliability, and utility of the DRDP (2015).
- Collaborating with the ELCD and other state agencies to develop resources and strategies for more efficient implementation of the DRDP (2015).
- Collaborating with other states about recommended practices in early childhood assessment and child outcomes reporting.
The key activities planned for 2019-2020 include:
- Providing online training required by the CDE, SED on using the DRDP (2015) for early interventionists and preschool special educators through DRAccessLearn.org.
- Collecting DRDP (2015) data on behalf of the CDE, SED twice yearly through DRAccessData.org for the 2019 Part B and Part C SPP Child Outcomes Indicators.
- Providing reports of DRDP (2015) results to SELPAs, school districts, special educators, and families through DRAccessReports.org.
- Conducting the analyses and managing the longitudinal results for the 2019 SPPPreschool Child Outcomes Indicator for the SED as displayed on the Indictor 7 website at: indicator7Reports.org.
- Conducting scaling investigations, item testing, and other descriptive and inferential analysis of statewide datasets as shown at DRAccess.org/policy.
