We are the Office of Inspector General (OIG) – an independent entity within the U.S. Department of Education (ED) responsible for identifying fraud, waste, abuse, and criminal activity involving ED funds, programs, and operations. We conduct independent audits and other reviews and criminal and civil investigations. We recommend actions to address systemic weaknesses and improve ED programs and operations.
