Neither the Police Nationale d’Haïti () nor the Partido Nacional de Honduras (). I agree with that Project Apollo was a triumph of the working class. So were good whiskey and Fender guitars. Not unrelatedly, I block TERFs.

Pretty funny that the wealthiest man in human history is getting less far into space in 2021 than the son of a Soviet carpenter and a milkmaid did in the 50s while riding a hollow lump of copper fixed to an prototype ICBM

This is not a good equivalence, here. And whatever worthwhile point you were hoping to make with this thread is likely to be lost because of it.

Twitter, where strangers try to collect on debts not owed to them. I don't know you from the Softee ice cream truck person, and I don't want to pursue the acquaintance.

Clocking out for the night. Just to be clear: I think people who disagree with me might have a point. I'm into talking with them. I always think I might be the asshole in the conversation. Right now: sleep.

The funny thing is that he thinks being an academic in the USA is genuine economic security against the sort of disruption that is likely to happen. Big Leopards Eating Faces energy.

Back when my brother and I still spoke: Him: I don't see why you care about the climate. Me: Because billions of people will die? Him: Yes, but the US is a wealthy country. We'll be fine. Me:

It is hard to figure out the right rhetorical attitude to take as the world burns. It sucks to be the "don't you dare be ironic or funny" asshole. On the other hand, I'd like to not die, and I'd like for the people I love to not die. I might go overboard about this.

My whole point being, the world is on fire, the hundred-billionaires are making it completely clear that they intend to convert us into protein slurry, so maybe we should be doing something? Other than performing Superiority Dances against one another about food and pop culture?

There's a lot of truth to what you're saying, though. The faux-outraged "HOW DARE YOU" and/or "ONLY MONSTERS DISAGREE WITH ME" both have this edge to them these days. And given what inspires genuine outrage these days (the "anti" discourse in fandom comes to mind)...

I dunno, maybe I'm just thick and stupid, thinking that perhaps this isn't the time to do extended Superiority Dances at one another about which piece of food or pop music establishes that our life has value and shouldn't be hilariously written off.

But, to return to what I was saying, it's conceivable that we should be, you know, doing things? To avert the end of the human world? To avoid having us all, and our descendants, die in extended misery?
